Glossary

Platform
AnyRun: the website, registration, payments, volunteers, results, photos, sponsorship and console services, together.
Organiser
The club, company or person who creates and runs an event on AnyRun. Your entry contract is with them.
Placement
A sponsor slot on an event surface (the event page, the results page, and so on), bought for one race.
Verification tier
How far a sponsor's business identity has been checked: checksum-validated ABN, or confirmed against the Australian Business Register.
Auction
A timed, ascending-bid sale of a placement. Once launched, an auction cannot be edited until it sells or expires.
Binding bid
A bid, once placed. It is an irrevocable offer to buy the placement at that amount if it is the highest bid when the auction closes. There is no retraction.
Shill bidding
Bidding on a placement you or an associate are selling, or arranging bids placed to inflate the price with no intention of buying. Prohibited here and unlawful under the Australian Consumer Law.
Winner window
The 48-hour window the winning bidder has to check out at the winning price before the hold lapses.
Moderation action
Withdrawing creative, pausing a placement, or suspending or terminating a sponsor account: taken when we reasonably suspect a breach of policy or law, and reviewable on request.
Personal information
Information about an identifiable person: your name, email, entries, results, photos.
Consent
A recorded, revocable permission, stored as its own append-only record with a timestamp, and shown where you gave it.

01What these terms cover, and who you are contracting with

These terms apply when you buy a sponsor placement for an event through AnyRun (the Platform), whether you found it in the marketplace, won it at auction, or accepted an organiser's invitation. They sit under the Terms of Use, including its Australian Consumer Law and liability sections.

AnyRun is the marketplace. The placement itself is the organiser's inventory on the organiser's event surfaces. When you buy or win one, the sponsorship contract is between you and the organiser; AnyRun lists the placement, runs the auction, collects the payment as the organiser's agent for that purpose, and renders the approved creative. We do not promise the organiser's performance, and the organiser is responsible for their event, their surfaces and the sponsorship arrangement they have with you.

What AnyRun is responsible for is the Platform: running the auction to the rules below, holding the placement for the winner, displaying approved creative on the described surfaces, and enforcing the Content Standards. Those are our obligations and we own them.

02What you accept, and when

You accept these terms and the Content Standards when you create a sponsor profile, and again (as they stand at that moment) each time you bid on or buy a placement. Both documents carry their own version and date at the top (these terms are currently 2026-09 and the Standards 2026-09) and a material change to either bumps that document's version, to be re-accepted before your next purchase.

You must not use a sponsor account to post, link to or promote anything unlawful. The Content Standards set out the detail: six categories banned outright, alcohol and gambling barred from child-focused events, and a truthful, lawful, rights-cleared bar on everything else. Read them before you supply creative; they are the rules we actually enforce, and the section on enforcement below is what happens when they are broken.

03Business verification

Sponsors on AnyRun are real businesses, and events deserve to know that. Your account carries a verification tier:

  • Checksum tier: your ABN is validated against the Australian Business Number check-digit algorithm the moment you type it. It proves the number is well-formed and is the minimum to operate.
  • Registry tier: your ABN has additionally been confirmed against the Australian Business Register as an active entity, and your account shows the registered entity name that matched.

You confirm the business details you provide are accurate and yours. A tier is a statement about registry checks; it is not an endorsement of your business by AnyRun or by any organiser.

04What you're buying

A placement is described at purchase: its tier, where it appears (an event page, a results page, a confirmation email surface), and its duration, normally tied to the relevant event. Once your logo is approved, placement is automatic from your tier: the platform renders it on the described surfaces without further steps. What a placement is not: access to participants, their contact details, or their attention beyond the described surfaces.

05Fixed price and auction

Organisers sell placements two ways. Fixed price: you pay the amount shown, and a placement is held briefly at that amount while you complete checkout. By auction: a timed, open, ascending-bid sale, with rules that are deliberately strict because money and fairness are involved: the next two sections are those rules, and by bidding you accept them.

06The auction rules

These are the rules the software actually enforces, described as it behaves.

  • A launched auction is immutable. Once an organiser launches an auction, neither the slot's terms nor the auction itself can be edited or removed until it sells or expires: the database refuses the change.
  • Auction windows run at least 24 hours and must end before the event starts, so every interested sponsor gets a genuine chance to see and bid; no two-minute flash auctions.
  • The starting price is published, and there is no hidden reserve. The floor you see is the floor: the organiser sets a starting price and a minimum increment when they launch, both shown on the auction. We do not operate secret reserves, and AnyRun does not place or simulate bids.
  • Bidding is straight ascending. Each bid must clear the standing bid plus the published increment. There is no proxy or automatic bidding: every bid on the board was placed deliberately by a person, so the price reflects what people bid.
  • Bids are binding and cannot be retracted. A bid is an irrevocable offer to buy the placement at that amount if it is the highest bid when the auction closes. There is no retraction mechanism, and asking us to remove a bid you regret is not one.
  • You cannot bid against yourself. The Platform refuses a bid from the account that already holds the high bid: bidding up your own standing bid is not price discovery.
  • Only verified sponsors may bid. Bidding requires a sponsor profile whose verification tier is at least checksum-validated, so every bid on the board is attached to a real, identified business.

07Auction integrity: no shill bidding

An ascending auction only works if every bid is a real attempt to buy. So:

  • Shill bidding is prohibited. You must not bid on a placement you are selling or associated with selling, arrange for anyone else to do so, or place any bid whose purpose is to inflate the price with no intention of buying. Organisers must not bid on their own events' placements, directly or through a related person or business. Beyond breaching these terms, this is misleading conduct under the Australian Consumer Law.
  • Each business holds one bidding account. Do not create additional sponsor accounts to bid on the same placement, and do not coordinate bids with another bidder to manipulate the outcome.
  • We may void bids and cancel or re-run an auction. Where we reasonably suspect bid manipulation, a pricing or listing error, an account breach, or that an auction cannot lawfully proceed, we may void the affected bids, cancel or restart the auction, or withdraw the placement, and we will tell the affected bidders and the organiser why. Nothing you paid for a cancelled auction is kept: an auction we cancel is refunded in full.
  • Every bid, settlement and cancellation is recorded. Bids, outbids, the winning amount, the settlement and any intervention are written to an audit trail with the acting account and timestamp. If you dispute an outcome, that record is what we look at.

08Winning: the 48-hour winner window

When an auction closes with a winning bid, the winner gets a winner window: 48 hours to complete checkout at the winning price. During that window the placement is held for you at exactly the price you won it: the organiser can't re-price it, and the close ends the bidding.

If the window lapses without payment, the hold ends. Any pending order is cancelled, the win is recorded as lapsed, and the placement returns to sale at a fixed price equal to the auction's original starting price; the organiser may then sell or relist it. The window exists to be fair in both directions: winners get a real chance to arrange payment, and organisers aren't left holding inventory for a bidder who walked away.

If an auction closes with no bids, the placement returns to fixed-price sale at its starting price. Losing bidders are notified when an auction closes, and the winning amount becomes the price payable; nothing else about the placement changes at settlement.

09Payment and refunds

Placement fees are payable through the Platform's payment flow at checkout. Placements are generally non-refundable once they go live: the exposure starts being delivered the moment the placement renders, except where the law requires otherwise or the event does not proceed. Before a placement goes live, unpaid holds lapse; nothing is charged until you check out. Nothing in this section limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

Who the money comes back from. Placement fees are paid into the event organiser’s own payment account, and they are the merchant of record, so any refund is returned from there, including one we decide on: a placement we take down, a suspension we impose, or a slot that had gone by the time your payment settled. You do not have to ask the organiser for it and they are not asked to agree: we approve the refund and it goes back to the payment method you used.

Asking the organiser. Where the reason is not one of ours, you can ask the organiser for a refund from your sponsor hub, with your reason. That request is settled between you and the organiser: they decide it, it is paid from their own payment account, and AnyRun is not a party to it. A placement refunded in full comes off the event page and returns to the marketplace.

10Your logo and approvals

You confirm you own or are licensed to use the logo and materials you supply, and you grant us and the organiser the licence to display them for the placement. Where you give us a web address for a logo, we take a copy of the picture and serve it from here, and the licence covers that file. The organiser reviews and must approve your logo before it goes live (their event, their brand standards) and changing your logo after approval sends it back through review before the new version shows. We and the organiser may decline or remove content that is unlawful, misleading or unsuitable for a community sporting event.

11What the exposure numbers count

Your sponsor console shows exposure information: page views, clicks, estimated impressions. These are indicative measures to help you understand reach. They are not audited advertising metrics, and we don't guarantee a specific number of impressions, clicks or business outcomes beyond delivering the placement described.

12If the event changes

If an event is cancelled or materially changed, we work with the organiser on a fair outcome for your placement, which may include a transfer to another event or a refund where appropriate. An event that did not happen delivered no exposure, and the outcome should reflect that.

13Participant data

Sponsoring an event does not buy access to its participants' personal information. We do not provide participant details to sponsors except where an individual has given express consent for that specific sharing. If you ever receive participant or lead information through a placement, you must handle it lawfully, only for the purpose it was shared, and delete it when that purpose ends. Runners trust the platform with their details to race. Being marketed to is not what they signed up for.

14Moderation, suspension and termination

We may act on reasonable suspicion, before proof. Where we reasonably suspect that a sponsor account, its creative, its linked destination or its conduct breaches these terms, the Content Standards, the Terms of Use or the law, we may take a moderation action immediately and without prior notice:

  • Remove or withdraw creative from every surface it renders on, including creative an organiser has already approved.
  • Pause or withdraw a placement for the duration of the investigation.
  • Suspend or terminate the sponsor account, including the ability to bid, buy or hold placements, where the suspected breach is serious, repeated, or unlawful.
  • Refuse or reverse a bid or purchase connected to the suspected breach, and decline to onboard the same business again.

We act this way because sponsor creative renders beside community events where children are present.

What you get in return. We tell you what we acted on and why, in plain terms. You can ask for a review by replying to that notice, and a person reads it. A filter alone does not decide it. If we got it wrong, we say so, restore the creative or the account, and you are not out of pocket for our mistake. If a suspension is confirmed as a breach, fees for the affected placement are not refunded, for the reason set out in the Content Standards: the placement was lost to the sponsor's own breach.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss arising from a moderation action taken on reasonable suspicion, including lost exposure, campaign timing or business opportunity. Nothing in this section excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.

Report something. Anyone can report a sponsor placement or creative to support@anyrun.net including an organiser who wants a sponsor off their event.

15Liability, governing law and contact
